Philadelphia (Dec. 3, 2008) - Move over Zane, Mary Morrison, and Noire, there’s a new erotica writer on the scene, and she’s poised to take over!

Shay -- a pseudonym for a 21-year-old New York native -- will be releasing her debut novel, Raw: An Erotic Street Tale in January, and the streets are already buzzing.

“I’m a little in shock. Here I am still in school, and already I have my first book being published,” Shays says. “I feel very blessed. A little overwhelmed, but very blessed.”

Raw tells the story of Chastity Jones, a 19-year-old Harlemite who, after being brutally raped, starts playing
the street scene – HARD!  Adopted as a protégée by a mysterious but streetwise 25-year-old named Legend, Chastity soon has men buying her cars, jewelry and taking her own trips to exotic locations. Eventually she falls in love with Legend, however, the feeling doesn’t seem to be reciprocated. So she finds
herself in the arms of his cousin – a millionaire drug king – and is soon caught in a whirlwind of money, sex, drugs and danger; and the only way out ends in death!

Karen E. Quinones Miller, CEO of Oshun Publishing, said when she first read the manuscript for Raw, she was blown away. “I couldn’t believe that someone so young could write so well. I read the whole manuscript in one night,” said Miller, who is an Essence bestselling author herself. “Although I don’t write urban novels or erotica myself, I’ve always been a fan of both genres, but Shay blends the two seamlessly. Oshun Publishing Company is a small independent company based in Philadelphia started in 1999 when Miller self-published her first novel, Satin Doll. The astounding success of that novel, 28,000 copies sold in less than a year, caused mainstream publishers to beat down Miller’s door in a rush to buy the publishing rights to her debut novel. Shay has already been dubbed the Princess of Urban Erotica by some people in the African-American literary circles, and she says that it’s a title that inspires her, and that she takes seriously. “Raw hasn’t even been released yet, but I’ve already gotten notice from established authors like Zane and Miasha, who both read the manuscript. For them to compliment me, a new writer . . . well, I almost feel I have to keep my game up to stay worthy of their praise.”
