Obama As A Chia Pet? Really???

Can you believe it? I couldn't? I first saw a commercial for it late yesterday afternoon and then again a couple of hours ago. I wondered . . . is this a joke? A racist joke at that? I mean, it was alarming watching the commercial and seeing Obama's green afro grow before our eyes. (I guess it didn't bother the makers of the toy that Obama does not sport an afro!)And just it time for Christmas, no less!

But a little investigation shows that the Obama Chia Pet has been on sale since January 2009. I don't know why I've never seen a commercial for it before . . . maybe they're only now doing television advertising? And, and it turns out, Obama is not only the president to be embodied as a chia pet . . . they have one for Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington, too! Along with chia Statue of Liberty and Hilary Clinton.

So, maybe . . . as the commercial say, having an Obama Chia Pet shows you're proud to be an American?

But before you decide, take a look at the Chia Pet in action.

Now . . .What say you??

Yes, It's True . . . Amiri Baraka Slapped by Lunatic at Harlem Book Fair

Dear Unnamed Lunatic Author:

Personally, I think there should be something called Cultural Respect. Do you know what it would take for me to slap somone like Amiri Baraka? And in public? Come on, now! And why did it have to go down at the Harlem Book Fair? That's bad enuff, but for you to tweet and FB so people who weren't there will know? Maybe the name he ALLEGEDLY called you fits after all??!!

I'm refusing to use this author's name because she's a publicity hound, and I don't want to give her more than she's already garnered - but there's three things that really piss me off about this mess . . .

Are You . . . Really?

Really?
Are you my friend?
You come to me when you need something

and I welcome you with open arms.
When I see an opportunity that might be of help to you

I track you down to let you know.
When I'm personallly doing something that I think might benefit you

I track you down to let you know
and even hold up my project so you can get your stuff together.
Do you do the same thing for me?
Really?
Are you my friend?

Money Can't Buy Love - by Connie Briscoe

Lenora Stone is having a tough time of it. She’s overweight, behind in her bills, and she’s been dating a man for three years whom she just can’t get to the altar.
And though she’s got a great job as a photographer for a popular Baltimore lifestyle magazine, she can’t get along with her boss -- the gorgeous and filthy-mouthed Dawna Delaney.
If only she had enough money to quit.
If only her life were different.
If only she could hit the state lottery.
Then she does – to the tune of $5 million.
She’s so shocked it actually takes her week before she finally cashes in the ticket, but just hours afterward she buys her dream car, a cashmere silver BMW 750Li. It is her first purchase, but it wouldn’t be her last. Because Lenora is certain that now that she’s Maryland’s newest millionaire, she can buy anything – including happiness. And possibly even love.

Book Review - No One in the World, by E. Lynn Harris and RM Johnson

Cobi Winslow has problems. The tall dark and handsome state attorney was adopted by a wealthy family as a young child, lives in a mansion, drives a Porsche, and is seemingly destined for a successful political career.
But after his adoptive parents are killed in a tragic plane crash, he finds that their will stipulates that unless he marries by his thirty-fourth birthday – which is only 40 days away – he’ll lose his $20 million dollar inheritance and a chunk of shares in the family’s hair product empire, which might mean that the company could face a hostile takeover.
In view of the fact that he’s considered one of the most eligible and sought after bachelor in Chicago, even this seems surmountable; but the fact that Cobi is a closeted gay, carrying on a secret affair with a married state senator complicates matters immensely.

Anthony Weiner Resigns -- And you think this is a good thing? Why???

Congressman Anthony Weiner Resigns

I'm actually sorry Weiner resigned!
First off, he did nothing illegal.
Second off, he proved -- early on in his career -- that he wasn't afraid to speak out and attack the Republicans, and even his own party when they're going against the will of the American people. (Do folks not remember it was Weiner who helped get the Health Care Bill back on track when even Obama seemed ready to back down?)
