Anthony Weiner Resigns -- And you think this is a good thing? Why???

Congressman Anthony Weiner Resigns

I'm actually sorry Weiner resigned!
First off, he did nothing illegal.
Second off, he proved -- early on in his career -- that he wasn't afraid to speak out and attack the Republicans, and even his own party when they're going against the will of the American people. (Do folks not remember it was Weiner who helped get the Health Care Bill back on track when even Obama seemed ready to back down?)
Third off, there are SO many Republicans who have done worse and not resigned, whose behavior was either illegal or cost the taxpayer's money. Republicans like:
David Vitter
John Boehmer
even John McCain
So why the bill outcry for Weiner to step down?
Yeah, he did some stupid things around sex. Um, so did JFK. And FDR. And Bill Clinton. But NO one -- with any kind of modicum of sense -- could say their indiscretions affected their ability to govern, lead, or assist the American people. (And yes, I deliberately only used Democrat examples here . . . just to show that I realize that Dems do as many stupid things as Repubs.)
It was the Republicans who initially called for Weiner to step down, but then lo and behold . . . their cry was picked up by the Democrats.
What???
Yes. And it was only then that Weiner actually capitulated.
That's right, Democrats, we don't need Republicans to get rid of our effective leaders . . . we can count on you to help!
Party suicide . . . that's all I can think of .  . . party suicide.

  1. I really dont follow politics too much but I agree minor personal mishaps dont effect their governing abilities. If that were the case we would all have to resign from our jobs! Great post.

  2. I agree with your statements 100%. The Democrats folded on this one and they have been as of late. The GOP have unfortunately been dictating the direction of this government not with policy, but with rhetoric and by preaching doom and gloom and racism towards OUR President. Many Republicans have been caught up in illegal activities and their own have stood with them while the Dems have remained mostly silent.

  3. Oooh!!! Politics!!! The way I see it is as simple as this...at what point did being a politician equate to that of a person with no semblance of self-control??? It's not like these guys are rock stars, rappers, or athletes...we elect them to uphold our central beliefs, not to indulge in their own personal fantasies. If they want to indulge, then it's probably best they abscond before making complete jackasses of themselves (ie. Weiner-- who went on every TV show I can think of to claim his account had been hacked). Now why do I need another confirmed liar representing me again? We can sit around all day and debate their politics, but there is a reason why politicians MUST be a certain age to become elected. Most of that reason is because they're much usually too immature to handle cause and effect of their actions at younger ages. In this age of 'transparency', putting yourself above the people you represent is not only wrong, it's quickly becoming political suicide.
